Five Senses:
Our five senses are just the surface result of an incredible network of neurons, cells, and genetics that took billions of years to unfold. The galaxy-like background transitioning from dark to light represents these billions of years, and neurons grow and emerge from far awawy to result in the five senses we have now.
Self Portrait: Mask: This self portrait highlights a bit of the delicacy and intricacy of the human body. Under tough skin, we are all a hardly recognizable network of nerves and fibres. A face is like a mask, but serves the opposite purpose: defining and humanizing this bundle of fibers that we otherwise are.
Connecting and Reflecting: This painting depicts the rower as "one with the world", the brain of the sun coinciding with her skull and the river's spine and ribs lining up with her own. A common rowing term is "connection" with the water: in this painting, not only is the rower "connected" to the river through her oars and boat, but is physically reflected in her surroundings.
